In 2003, Toys”R”Us Children’s Fund made a $7 million, multi-year donation to Starlight to fund the construction and renovation of Toys”R”Us Children’s Fund Starlight SiteTM playrooms in hospitals across the country. Toys”R”Us Children’s Fund Starlight Sites serve as relaxing, carefree spaces for infants, toddlers, and older children. The playrooms also provide activities to help engage parents with their children during their stay at the hospital. Starlight Site amenities include such things as big screen TVs, DVD/VCR players, CD players, computers, craft areas, wall-mounted games and new toys that each hospital is able to purchase with a $1,000 Toys”R”Us gift card.
“Toys“R”Us and the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund are committed to improving the quality of life for children.Through these playrooms, we hope to bring much-needed joy and play time to young patients at hospitals nationwide.”
— Kathleen Waugh, Chairman, Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund, Inc.
For children confined to a hospital, the opportunity to have fun in a well-equipped, inviting atmosphere assists in the healing process. While play experiences are valuable in their own right, they also provide children an opportunity to express their feelings, release stress and learn new skills. Starlight’s partnership with Toys“R”Us enhances the quality of the Starlight Site program and brings countless hours of therapeutic fun to children who need it most.
